Epoxy/polyester powder coating About

Introduction

Epoxy powder coating

Product Description

This series of products uses polyester resin and epoxy resin as the main base material to make thermosetting powder coating.

Product Features

  • Good adhesion, excellent mechanical properties such as impact resistance;
  • Good leveling and gloss;
  • Strong chemical resistance and corrosion resistance;
  • Better heat resistance and light resistance stability than pure epoxy powder.

Special effects

Various wrinkles, metal, pearlescent effects and mixed colors, etc.

Epoxy powder coating

Application areas

Suitable for coating of various indoor products, widely used in any indoor purposes such as furniture, household appliances, industrial equipment, sports equipment, toys, hardware machinery, store shelves, lamps, etc.

Transportation packaging

Carton packaging, lined with two layers of polyvinyl chloride plastic bags, net weight of each box is 20kg. Non-hazardous items can be transported in various ways, but should be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture and heat, and contact with chemicals.

Hygiene and safety

Operators should wear dust masks during use to avoid inhaling dust and minimize long-term contact between skin and powder coating. Paint attached to the skin can be washed with soap.

Epoxy powder coating

Powder properties

Specific gravity 1.41.8g/cm3 (depending on the formulation and color)
Particle size Depending on the purpose, the standard type has an average particle size of 3540 microns, less than 10 microns powder <10%, greater than 100 microns powder <0.5%.
Volatile matter <1%
Softening point 6095 varies depending on the color gloss
Storage stability Epoxy/polyester powder coatings should be stored in a dry, ventilated room below 35, and avoid direct sunlight. If stored in an air-conditioned room, the powder must be stored at room temperature or the same (temperature) as the spraying equipment before use to avoid moisture. Under this condition, the powder can be stored stably for 12 months. If it exceeds the period, it must be re-tested. If the result meets the requirements, it can still be used. Note: For low-temperature curing types and powders with a gloss of less than 40% (60), the storage temperature should be below 30.

Coating properties

Test items Inspection standard or method Inspection index
Appearance Visual inspection Various board surface effects
Impact GB/T 1732 50Kgcm
Bending GB/T 6742 2mm
Cupping GB/T 9753 8mm
Hardness GB/T 6739 H2H
Adhesion GB/T 9286 Level 0

Moisture and heat resistance GB/T 1740 500h No abnormality
Photoaging Poor light resistance, not recommended for outdoor use
The above coating performance indicators may decrease slightly as the gloss decreases.
Spraying This series of products are suitable for the following spraying methods: corona electrostatic spraying; friction electrostatic spraying; electrostatic fluidized bed spraying; fluidized bed hot dip coating.
Coating thickness: Use between 40150 microns, recommended film thickness is 5080 microns. Average coverage: 1012 square meters/kg, film thickness 60 microns (calculated based on 100% usage rate)
Curing conditions 200/10 minutes is recommended, and it can also be designed according to user needs: 140/30 minutes, 160/20180/10

Superior Protection and Aesthetic Versatility

Epoxy/polyester powder coating provides exceptional protection against weathering, UV radiation, and chemicals while enhancing the appearance of metal objects. With options for finish and color customization, this coating meets both functional and decorative standards. Its formulation ensures long-lasting performance even in demanding environments, making it a preferred choice for industrial applications across various sectors.

Efficient and Reliable Application Process

Application is achieved through electrostatic spray or fluidized bed methods, promoting uniform coverage and strong metal adhesion following appropriate surface pretreatment. The coating cures at 150C-200C, forming a robust film of 60-120 microns. This quick and effective process results in outstanding finish quality, ensuring consistency and reliability for large-scale industrial use.

FAQ's of Epoxy/polyester powder coating:

Q: How is epoxy/polyester powder coating applied to metal surfaces?

A: Epoxy/polyester powder coating is typically applied using an electrostatic spray gun or a fluidized bed. The powder particles are electrostatically charged and sprayed onto properly pretreated metal surfaces, ensuring even coverage. Once applied, the coated metal is cured in an oven at temperatures between 150C and 200C to achieve the desired film thickness and finish.

Q: What benefits does this powder coating provide over conventional paints?

A: Compared to conventional liquid paints, epoxy/polyester powder coating offers superior adhesion, enhanced durability, and excellent resistance to chemicals and UV radiation. It also provides a uniform finish and is available in various gloss levels and custom colors, extending both the lifespan and appearance of metal surfaces.

Q: When should I use this type of powder coating?

A: This coating is ideal for use on metal objects requiring both decorative appeal and enhanced protection, such as industrial machinery, automotive components, architectural metals, and outdoor equipment. Its robust performance makes it especially suitable for applications exposed to harsh weather or chemical conditions.

Q: Where should the powder coating powder be stored?

A: To retain quality and shelf life, the powder should be kept in a cool, dry place below 25C, away from direct sunlight. The coating should remain in sealed bags or HDPE drums until use, which helps prevent moisture contamination and prolongs its effectiveness up to 12 months.

Q: What is the general process for achieving optimal adhesion with this powder coating?

A: Optimal adhesion is achieved by properly pretreating the metal surface through cleaning, degreasing, and sometimes applying a conversion coating. This step removes contaminants and prepares the surface to bond strongly with the epoxy/polyester powder during the curing process.

Q: Is the epoxy/polyester powder coating safe to use?

A: Yes, the product is classified as non-toxic when handled according to recommended application conditions. However, standard safety practices such as using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring adequate ventilation during application are advised.

Q: Can I request custom colors or finishes for specific projects?

A: Absolutely. Custom colors, as well as a choice of matt, semi-gloss, or full-gloss finishes, are available upon request to meet specific project requirements. This allows for tailored results to match your design or branding needs.
