Basecoat powder coating About

Product Description

MT-A2204 basecoat comes in an array of metallic finishes, which offer enhanced exterior durability with the application of a super-durable polyester clearcoat. These advanced systems incorporate proprietary technology to protect and extend the life of these metallics. These MT-A2204 basecoat powders are moisture and stain resistant, chemical and chip resistant durable, and built to last in the most challenging environments.

Cure schedule 10 minutes 200C

Pre-treatment

Steel surfaces to be coated must be clean and free from grease. For maximum protection it is essential to pre-treat components prior to the application of MT-A2204 basecoat. Iron Phosphate and Zinc Phosphate of ferrous metals improve corrosion resistance. Aluminium parts require a chromate conversion pre-treatment.

Application

MT-A2204 basecoat powders can be applied by manual or automatic electrostatic spray equipment. Tribo application is not recommended. It is recommended that for consistent application and appearance product be fluidized during application. MT-MW188I must be fully cured otherwise there may be a loss of metallic effect or discoloration of the clear topcoat. MT-MW188I is not stabilized for direct gas fired ovens.

All coated pieces should be handled with clean lint free gloves.

Parts should not be stored in an environment with high humidity.

Clear coat should be applied as soon as possible after metallic application (maximum time between coats is 8 hours)

Parts should not be passed through a pre-treatment process prior to application of the clear coat Despite the fact that MT-MW188I is a bonded metallic it is not recommended to recycle the powder.

Superior Protection and Versatile Finish

Basecoat powder coating delivers robust adhesion and high impact resistance, ensuring metals remain protected against physical and environmental damage. Choose from various finishes, including smooth, matt, semi-gloss, glossy, or textured, tailored to your application needs. Its free-flowing powder form enables uniform coverage and visually striking results across a wide palette of colors.

Environmentally Friendly and Long Shelf Life

This powder coating is formulated with zero VOCs, making it an eco-conscious choice for both manufacturers and end-users. When stored below 25C in dry conditions, the product maintains its quality for up to 12 months, providing reliability and convenience for industrial operations. Its robust packaging in 20 kg or 25 kg lined HDPE bags or cartons ensures safe storage and handling.

FAQ's of Basecoat powder coating:

Q: How should basecoat powder coating be applied for optimal results?

A: For best performance, apply the powder coating to clean, pre-treated metal surfaces using electrostatic spraying. Ensure the film thickness reaches between 60 and 80 microns, then cure the coated item at 180C to 200C to achieve optimum adhesion and durability.

Q: What types of finishes and colors are available with this coating?

A: This basecoat powder coating provides smooth, matt, semi-gloss, glossy, and textured finishes. It is available in a wide range of RAL standard or custom-matched colors to suit both decorative and functional requirements.

Q: Where can basecoat powder coating be used?

A: It is ideal for protective and decorative applications on metal surfaces, primarily in interior settings and some selected exterior uses, offering strong corrosion resistance when applied to properly pre-treated metals.

Q: What benefits does this powder coating offer compared to liquid coatings?

A: Unlike liquid coatings, this powder coating has zero VOC content, making it environmentally friendly. It offers higher film build, excellent adhesion, superior impact resistance, and a uniform, durable finish that resists corrosion and chemical attack.

Q: How should the powder coating be stored to maintain its quality?

A: Store the powder in its original, sealed HDPE bag or carton below 25C and in dry conditions. Following these guidelines ensures the product maintains its effectiveness for up to 12 months.

Q: What is the process for curing and achieving the intended film properties?

A: After application, cure the coated part in an oven at 180C to 200C. This thermosetting process cross-links the resins, forming a tough, protective, and visually consistent film with a thickness of 60-80 microns.
